PULSE: To gain a different perspective on this hotbed of electronic innovation, I spoke to Max Pask from Populette (one of the most prolific and longest serving acts on the label) and asked them how they got involved with the imprint.
MAX PASK: Throne of Blood is like a family. We were good friends before the label existed, Andrew (from Populette) does all the artwork and James is also involved in Populette as a manager, so when it started it was natural for us to become part of it. We released 2 EP's in 2010 "Mommy / Daddy" and "Populace / Populus", both featuring great remixes by TBD, Harkin & Raney and Gavin Russom. We also remixed others on the label: Harkin & Raney, Bibi Tanga & the Selenites and Remain & Mlle Caro.
PULSE: Looking to the here and now, this bunch of NYC House music adepts have a new release just about to explode forth.
MAX PASK: Our new EP "Lasers are Forever" is out in November, with remixes by Remain & Mlle Caro as well as Clement Meyer. We're already working on the next one for TOB and have a couple projects in the works for other labels. We've also collaborated on tracks with Remain, Bicep and others. We always try to get our friends in the studio and do something when they come through town. A lot of that should see a release in 2012, stay tuned!
PULSE: Other upcoming releases from castle TOB of include a new 12 inch from the Cosmic Kids and a release by the end of the year from Dub Techno stalwart Brendon Moeller (as Deep Pharmacy). Then there is the new TOB sub-label ‘Let’s Play House’, which is set to release more 12’s in the near future, including one by Dean from Chicken Lips under the M.E.B alias.
Finally, I dusted off my crystal ball and asked James to ruminate on possible future directions that the Throne might take.
JAMES FRIEDMAN: I think we’ll keep plugging away with the singles really and maybe do some more compilations. We have already done a best of Throne of Blood digital compilation that’s available on I-Tunes at a reduced price. I’d like to do more TOB events around America and Europe too. We have done two mini-tours in Europe already and they worked really well, so I’d like to do more of that. Also we have lots more events coming up in New York.
